My students really enjoyed the study trip downtown Naples that we took yesterday. The Italian students who toured us around were nice and prepared. They told us about some historical facts on the Royal Palace and the Egg Castle. At the end of the tour, we all enjoyed a delicious pizza in a restaurant on the waterfront.

On Nov 26 I will take some of my Italian II students to a trip downtown Naples. We will meet a class of Italian high school students, who will act as tour guides. They will show us around Piazza Plebiscito, the Royal Palace and the Egg Castle. We will then eat a pizza at a local pizzeria. Mr. Sherokee's Italian II class and Yearbook class will join us. I already passed out the permission slips to the students who are participating (only from level II). This post is to remind them to bring 4 Euro (exact change) for the Royal Apartments and have their parent permission slip signed.
On Nov 18 I will be hosting a class of Italian students from "Istituto Maristi" High School in Giugliano. As usual, at the beginning of their visit I will be giving a short presentation about the main differences between the American and the Italian school systems. Then, each Italian student will be assigned to a sponsor from my classes. They will attend their hosts' classes regularly and have lunch together. They will leave at the end of the day. If you are in one of my classes and/or Italian Club and would like to sponsor an Italian student, please come to my room on Nov 18 at 9:15 sharp. Exchange contacts, practice your Italian, enjoy your day! A piece of news today fits perfectly in the lesson that we have been covering in the past two weeks with AP Italian about migration flows –Italians leaving the country or Southerners moving to Northern Italy. Italian-American Bill de Blasio was elected new mayor of New York: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/nov/06/bill-de-blasio-wins-new-york-mayoral-election After interpreting the chart about Italy’s internal migration and after having discussed about the big migration flow to North and South America at the beginning of XIX century, advanced Italian students will research and discuss the lives of some successful Italian Americans. A documentary on Pompeii, produced by the British Museum, will be presented on November 25 in cinemas all over the world. The documentary will let you immerse in the life of Pompeii and Ercolano through exclusive video footage and curator interviews. The British Museum also offers the possibility of downloading an app, that will let you explore the story of Vesuvius's eruption in the interactive timeline to see the differing fates of the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. http://www.sceglilfilm.it/news/Pompei,-il-documentario-prodotto-dal-British-Museum/3916 http://notizie.tiscali.it/regioni/campania/feeds/13/11/04/t_74_20131104_1123_gallery_02.html?campania |
From the author:Like in most small Italian towns, the Piazza is the place where people meet, chit-chat, share small stories. Here you will find tips, announcements, links, stories that relate to Italian culture and lessons. Archives
